Hydroquinone
Hydroquinone 12% Cream is a high-strength, prescription-grade topical treatment used to visibly reduce the appearance of melasma, age spots, sun damage, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). This formulation is intended for short-term use under medical supervision and is ideal for patients who have not responded to lower-concentration products.
Hydroquinone is a melanin synthesis inhibitor that works by blocking the enzyme tyrosinase, which is necessary for the production of melanin (pigment). By decreasing melanin production, it helps to fade dark patches and even out skin tone.
This 12% concentration is significantly stronger than over-the-counter formulations (typically 2%) and is recommended for patients with persistent or treatment-resistant discoloration. It should be used with caution and as part of a complete skin care plan monitored by a medical provider.
