Overview

What it is

Anti-Aging 2 S is a compounded topical cream that combines alpha lipoic acid 0.45%, estriol 0.3%, finasteride 0.25%, and tretinoin 0.01%, with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and sodium hyaluronate. Strive Pharmacy prepares it in 30 gm, 60 gm, and 90 gm sizes.

It is a compounded medication. It is not FDA approved, and the FDA has not evaluated it for safety, effectiveness, or quality. A licensed provider decides whether a compounded cream is appropriate for you after reviewing your history.

Mechanism

How it works

Each ingredient in the cream is a separate active component applied to the skin. Tretinoin is a retinoid, estriol is a form of estrogen, finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, alpha lipoic acid and ascorbic acid are antioxidants, and sodium hyaluronate is a humectant. Your provider will explain which areas to treat and how much to apply.

Because this is a custom formulation, your provider can adjust the prescription based on how your skin responds.

The program

What to expect

Your provider will tell you how and when to apply the cream and how long to use it before a follow-up. Many topical retinoids cause dryness, redness, and peeling in the first weeks, and your provider may start you on a lower frequency. Results vary from person to person, and no outcome is guaranteed.

Your prescription is filled by the compounding pharmacy and shipped to you with directions on the label.

Candidacy

Who it is for

This cream is prescribed by a licensed provider after an evaluation. It is not appropriate for everyone. It should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to become pregnant, and it should not be handled by women who are or may become pregnant. Tell your provider about your full medical history, including any history of hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots, or liver disease.

Tolerability

Side effects

Common side effects of topical retinoids include skin dryness, redness, peeling, burning, stinging, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Estrogen absorbed through the skin may cause breast tenderness, headache, or spotting. Finasteride may cause local irritation, and oral finasteride has been associated with sexual side effects and mood changes, so report any new symptoms to your provider.

Stop use and contact your provider if you develop severe irritation, swelling, signs of an allergic reaction, or any unusual symptoms.
