Overview

What it is

Hair Force One is a compounded oral capsule that combines six ingredients: ferrous fumarate (iron), methylcobalamin (vitamin B12), zinc sulfate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), biotin (vitamin B7) and niacinamide (vitamin B3). A licensed provider may prescribe it as part of a hair restoration program after reviewing your history, nutrition and lab results. Strengths are set by your prescriber.

This medication is compounded by Strive Pharmacy. It is prepared for an individual patient based on a prescription. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, which means the FDA has not evaluated their safety, effectiveness or quality.

Mechanism

How it works

Hair follicles need a steady supply of nutrients to function. Iron, zinc and several B vitamins are involved in cell growth and in the body's production of keratin, the protein that makes up hair. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron.

Your provider determines whether a nutrient-based approach is appropriate for you and sets the dose.

The program

What to expect

Your provider may review your health history and lab work, such as iron levels, before prescribing, and may check them again during treatment. Hair growth is gradual, and changes are typically judged over many months.

Individual responses vary, and results are not guaranteed.

Candidacy

Who it is for

Whether Hair Force One is appropriate for you is a decision made by a licensed provider based on your history, medications and laboratory results. It is not appropriate for everyone, including people with iron overload conditions.

Tolerability

Side effects

Commonly reported side effects include nausea, upset stomach, constipation, dark stools and metallic taste. Iron and zinc are more likely to upset the stomach when taken without food. Niacinamide can cause flushing in some people. Allergic reactions are possible.

Taking more than directed can cause iron or zinc toxicity. Contact your provider promptly about severe stomach pain, vomiting, black or bloody stools, or signs of an allergic reaction.
