Hair Revive is a compounded topical formula that combines five ingredients: fluocinolone acetonide, minoxidil, tretinoin, biotin and vitamin E. It is applied to the scalp. A licensed provider may prescribe it as part of a hair restoration program after reviewing your scalp, medical history and goals. Strengths are set by your prescriber.
This medication is compounded. It is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient based on a prescription. Compounded medications are not FDA approved, which means the FDA has not evaluated their safety, effectiveness or quality.
Minoxidil widens blood vessels and is thought to prolong the growth phase of the hair cycle. Tretinoin, a form of vitamin A, may increase how much minoxidil the skin absorbs. Fluocinolone acetonide is a topical corticosteroid that reduces inflammation when it is contributing to scalp symptoms. Biotin and vitamin E are included as nutritional and antioxidant ingredients. Evidence that biotin improves hair growth in people without a deficiency is limited.
Your provider determines the strengths and how to use the formula, and adjusts the plan based on your response and scalp health.
Hair growth is gradual. Hair follicles follow a long cycle, so changes are typically judged over many months rather than weeks. Some people notice increased shedding early in treatment, and some notice scalp dryness or irritation.
Consistent use is important, and hair loss may return if treatment stops. Your provider will review your progress at follow-up visits. Individual responses vary, and results are not guaranteed.
Whether Hair Revive is appropriate for you is a decision made by a licensed provider based on your scalp examination, medical history and medications. It is not appropriate for everyone, including people with open wounds or infections on the scalp.
It should not be used by anyone who is pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or who is nursing, unless your provider directs otherwise. This page is general information and is not medical advice.
Commonly reported side effects include scalp redness, dryness, peeling, itching, burning and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Unwanted hair growth on the face or other areas can occur if the product contacts them. Long or heavy use of a topical corticosteroid can thin the skin and cause stretch marks, small visible blood vessels and acne-like bumps.
Minoxidil that is absorbed into the body can cause a fast heartbeat, dizziness, swelling and chest pain. Allergic reactions are possible. Contact your provider promptly about chest pain, a rapid heartbeat, fainting, swelling, shortness of breath, severe scalp irritation or signs of an allergic reaction.

Pregnancy and nursing. Tell your provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or nursing before using this product.
Corticosteroid use. Fluocinolone acetonide is a topical corticosteroid. Use it only as directed and for the length of time your provider specifies. Long-term or heavy use can thin the skin and, in rare cases, affect the body's hormone balance.
Sun sensitivity. Tretinoin can make skin more sensitive to sunlight. Protect your scalp from sun exposure and avoid tanning beds.
Application. For use on the scalp only. Wash your hands after applying. Avoid contact with eyes, face, mouth and other skin, and keep it away from children and pets.
Cardiovascular risk. Some minoxidil can be absorbed into the body. Tell your provider if you have heart disease or low blood pressure.
Biotin and lab tests. Biotin can interfere with certain lab tests, including thyroid and cardiac tests. Tell your provider and the lab that you use biotin before blood work.
