Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. A licensed provider may prescribe it as part of a sexual wellness program after reviewing your symptoms, medications, and health history.
This medication is compounded. It is prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient based on a prescription. It is not FDA approved, and the FDA has not evaluated it for safety, effectiveness, or quality. The form, strength, and directions are set by your prescriber and printed on your pharmacy label.
Tadalafil blocks an enzyme called PDE5. Blocking it helps blood vessels relax and widen, which increases blood flow. It works in response to sexual stimulation and does not cause arousal on its own.
Tadalafil stays in the body longer than some other PDE5 inhibitors, which also means side effects and medication interactions can last longer. Your provider determines the dose and how it should be used, and may adjust it based on how you respond.
Your provider will review your health history, blood pressure, and every medication you take before prescribing. Your provider will tell you how much to take, when to take it, and how often, and may change the plan over time. Do not take more than prescribed.
Individual responses vary, and results are not guaranteed.
Whether tadalafil is appropriate for you is a decision made by a licensed provider based on your symptoms, examination, and health history. It is not appropriate for everyone, including people who take nitrate medications and people with certain heart conditions.
Sexual health concerns can have many causes, including heart health, diabetes, hormone levels, and medications. Your provider will evaluate the full picture.

Nitrates. Never take tadalafil if you use nitrate medications, including nitroglycerin, or recreational nitrites known as poppers. The combination can cause a sudden, dangerous drop in blood pressure. Because tadalafil stays in the body for a long time, tell emergency providers that you take it.
Other medications. Tell your provider about everything you take, especially alpha blockers, blood pressure medications, riociguat, other PDE5 inhibitors, and certain antifungals, antivirals, and antibiotics. Alcohol can add to dizziness and low blood pressure.
Heart health. Sexual activity carries some cardiac risk. Tell your provider if you have heart disease, low or uncontrolled high blood pressure, a history of stroke, or liver or kidney disease.
Vision and hearing. Stop use and get medical help right away if you notice sudden vision or hearing loss.
