At DrWell, we’re committed to building tools that help practices grow while adapting to the evolving regulatory environment surrounding compounded medications.
Following recent FDA enforcement activity, we’re making an important update to how medication imagery is managed within DrWell Connect.
Effective immediately, providers will no longer be able to upload custom medication images to treatment plan templates. DrWell is also in the process of removing previously uploaded custom medication images and transitioning affected medications back to standardized imagery.
No action is required from your practice.
Why we’re making this change
On February 20, 2026, the FDA issued a warning letter to SkinnyRx addressing the way compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide products were represented on its website.
Among the FDA’s concerns were images of compounded medications displaying “SkinnyRx” on the pictured label. According to the FDA, those images suggested that SkinnyRx was the compounder of the medications when it was not.
The FDA stated that these representations were false or misleading and therefore caused the products to be misbranded under sections 502(a) and 502(bb) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
The FDA also raised concerns about website language comparing compounded products with FDA-approved branded medications or stating that they contained the “same active ingredient.” According to the warning letter, those claims could imply that the compounded products had been FDA-approved or otherwise evaluated for safety and effectiveness when they had not.
The message is important for anyone presenting compounded medications online: how a medication is represented—including the imagery and labeling shown to a patient—matters.
What this means for DrWell Connect
Until now, Connect has allowed practices to upload custom medication images for use within treatment plan templates.
That flexibility can create a situation where an image of a medication or vial includes a practice’s name, logo, branding, or other presentation that could potentially give patients an inaccurate impression about who compounded or manufactured the medication.
Given the FDA’s recent enforcement activity, we believe continuing to support unrestricted custom medication imagery creates unnecessary risk for practices using Connect.
We are therefore standardizing how medications are visually represented throughout the platform.
What’s changing
As part of this update:
- Providers will no longer be able to upload custom medication images to treatment plan templates in DrWell Connect.
- Previously uploaded custom medication images will be removed from the platform.
- Medications currently using custom imagery will revert to the applicable DrWell-standardized imagery as we complete the transition.
- DrWell is also reviewing and removing related imagery from DrWell-owned websites and other relevant experiences.
You may notice these changes occurring gradually as our team completes the update across the DrWell ecosystem.
You do not need to manually remove previously uploaded images. DrWell is handling the transition for you.
What isn’t changing
This update is specific to custom medication imagery.
Your treatment plans and other applicable program configurations are not being removed as part of this change. Where a treatment plan currently uses an affected custom image, the image will simply be transitioned back to the appropriate standardized imagery.
Why standardization creates a better experience
Our goal with Connect is not simply to give practices more functionality. It’s to provide infrastructure that helps practices operate and grow their programs responsibly.
Standardizing medication imagery allows DrWell to provide greater consistency in how compounded medications are represented to patients and reduces the burden on individual practices to determine whether a particular custom medication image could create an unintended or misleading impression.
It also gives DrWell the ability to respond consistently as FDA expectations and enforcement priorities continue to evolve.
Continuing to evolve with your practice
We understand that many practices use branding to create a cohesive patient experience, and we don’t take away customization without careful consideration.
In this case, we believe standardizing medication imagery is the right approach for both our customers and the patients they serve.
We’ll continue investing in ways for practices to create a differentiated patient experience in Connect without introducing unnecessary ambiguity around the identity, source, or regulatory status of a medication.
As the regulatory environment evolves, we’ll continue evolving Connect with it—so your team can spend less time interpreting changes and more time focused on your practice and your patients.
